Michael Davis is the father of Jason and Mat, son to James Davis and brother to Karen. Currently in his mid to late fourties, he tried to save both his sons and wife and take them to his father's house, in hopes of uniting with him. During the six hours the leeches fell on the earth, he went to take his children from their home. His plan was to take the children with his wife to the shelter, and then travel to his father's house and bring him along. However, while he was in his house, the leeches fell and the shelter residents succumbed to them. Michael returned with the boys back to take Anna, but they were all dead by then. He let the kids outside and headed in, where he pushed through leechers and saw her under a pile of debris. She stood by the window, looking at the direction from which he came. A wooden stick had pierced he abdomen, and blood was alla round her, but she wasn't dead. She was a leecher. Michael talked to her a little but then left because Jason started shooting outside. He took the children and left, driving to his father's house outside the city. He lied to them about their mother, he said he didn't find her and that the people of the shelter left. He told them they would go find their grandfather and then go find their mother who is safer for now.

When they stopped, he told Jason of his mother's death. For the time being, they decided to keep it a secret from Mat. The cold then came with the destruction of Xianfar, and they stayed at James' house with his sister's family.

He is the first one to suggest to the group that they should stay somewhere guarded and wait for the leechers to die out, but William refuses at first. After some people die though, William agrees and they hole up in a place for a while until they figure out the leechers are not gonna die. William was still hesitant over this, but Michael stood up to him. William was enrages at this, and they came at odds, but in the end he realised they needed to stop as things were too dangerous for them. He later tells Michael that he knows Michael is correct, and he needs him, but he can't have him undermine him in front of the others. Michael apologises and from that point their friendship flourishes

At first he suffers from PTSD, and he usually takes watch, because he wants to stay close to windows to monitor the leechers outside. He is the first one to go to Christine for psychological help. Over time, they develop a friendly bond too, which later turns into a romance.

Micheal eventually dies and his death has a huge impact on the whole group
